shortcut to the systematic life: city spirits
video, color, duration 4:57
Kwang-Yu Tsui .
02 Jan 2008 - 10 Feb 2008
Kwang-yu Tsui was born in Taipei in 1974. Lives and works in Taipei.
In his videos, Tsui is the actor of performances, often in public spaces, often with a silly character, but carrying a meaning which is far beyond the simple impact of the action.
In Shortcut to The Systematic Life: City Spirits Tsui elaborates three characters, the first playing a nice street-bowling (Bowling the alley), the second having it with cars at semaphores (The rat race), the third playing a golf course in public green spaces (London green).
Behind a simple language close to the TV candid camera style, Tsui enacts amusing and complex incidences, actions that confront an unprepared reality, acting on the logic of paradox in the ordinate flow of the metropolitan life.
